Eat Global, Shop Local

As the year's sunny Farmer's Market season approaches, we are all loco for locavore! Locavore was added into Merriam-Webster's dictionary in 2005 and is defined as one who eats foods grown locally whenever possible. Strolling the stalls of glorious goods at the Farmer's Market creates a passion for eating local. The colorful season's produce, meats, cheeses, honey, and endless local specialties abound and make us realize how rich each region is with amazing gastronomic products. As part of the local merchant stands, you will find those, like The Olive Tap, selling artisanal global specialties. Eating local, whether it is within a 100-mile radius or your entire state, has a positive effect on local artisan producers, the environment, and your health. However, the great thing about eating locavore is that it is not an all-or-nothing approach. Where would our cuisine be without fresh olive oil and rich balsamic vinegar?

The Locavore movement has created awareness of origin. Origins of foods, and how they are processed, is so very important today and consciousness of this is essential when choosing local or global foods. Artisan specialties from around the world, like olive oil and balsamic vinegar, add depth, diversity, creativity, and excitement to the kitchen. Think of all the products that we would not enjoy without a global market. For many of us, that would mean no coffee or tea, no exotic spices or peppercorns, no chocolate, and no olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Traveling the world, one discovers the intricate local specialties rich in tradition and flavor of a particular region. Artisans passionate about preserving their integrity and customs excel in creating specialties that create new culinary opportunities for those who enjoy them around the world. The relationship developed between the producer and local merchant is just a important and special as the that between the local merchant and consumer.

It is imperative that the local provider of global artisan specialties be truly passionate, knowledgeable, and honest. Here at The Olive Tap, we present artisan olive oils and Balsamic Vinegar of Modena that have been thoroughly researched and trusting relationships developed with the producers. This is a difference you can taste! Whether you visit us in one of our tasting emporiums or at your local farmer's market, we strongly encourage you to taste our variety of balsamic vinegars and olive oils. Trust me, whatever your experience in tasting is, you will taste the difference! Quality specialty products have so many different nuances and we here at The Olive Tap can help you experience them for yourselves. So remember, EAT GLOBAL, but SHOP LOCAL!
