The Olive Tap Koroneiki Olive Oil for Health and Flavor

The Olive Tap prides itself on offering a variety of 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oils from delicate to robust, to please a wide range of palettes. While the Olive Tap Tasting Panel approves only the highest quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) based on chemical and sensory analyses, we always consider flavor above all else. How exciting then to offer you a very special, super healthy Koroneiki 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the rolling hills of Yolo County, California. This 2015/2016 season Koroneiki is exceptional for both its flavor and health benefits!

Due to the many favorable characteristics of the varietal, Koroneiki olive trees have flourished in California, where super high density orchards of Arbequina, Arbosana, and Koroneiki orchards have become the norm. In many cases, robust Koroneiki oil is obscured within blends of Arbequina and Arbosana to give them more flavor and make them last longer. Fortunately, we were able to secure a limited production of pure 100% Koroneiki EVOO in all its robust splendor.

Koroneiki is special due in part to its complex and robust flavor profile, which evokes notes of various green apple and hazelnut. This year's oil is also very fruity for an early harvest oil and peppery with a balanced bitterness, which is indicative of the high polyphenol count.

Polyphenols are a micronutrient found abundantly in many natural plant food sources. They are the most prevalent type of antioxidant. Science teaches us that antioxidants help protect our bodies from free radical damage and, to a certain extent, the effects of aging. Thus, these polyphenols play an important role in the prevention and treatment of multiple diseases including cancer, degenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease and more. Polyphenols have been shown to support cardiovascular health, including lower blood pressure and sugar levels, reduction in arterial plaque buildup, protection against certain types of cancer, and reduced inflammation.

Our California Koroneiki contains a remarkable polyphenol count of 525! Not only does this make for an exceptionally healthy olive oil, these antioxidants help slow down the natural oxidizing process resulting in a more shelf stable EVOO that is much less likely to become rancid when compared to common grocery store brands. This Koroneiki also exhibits a very low acidity levels making it one of the longest lasting olive oils you can buy. Naturally over time, the Polyphenol levels will diminish and the bitterness and pungency will go away, but the oil will remain good tasting and the high monounsaturated fat levels will still offer a myriad of health benefits

This is an ideal EVOO for olive oil aficionados, for those seeking the optimal health benefits, or those who use olive oil sparingly and require one that stays fresher longer. For the aficionados, we recommend this EVOO equally as a cooking and finishing oil due to its higher heat tolerance. For those seeking the health benefits, the medical community recommends at least 2 tablespoons per day, preferably as part of a meal where unhealthy fats have been equally reduced.Some people even drink EVOO straight (remember olives are fruit and olive oil is simply olive juice!). Finally we recommend keeping the bottle closed when not in use and always stored away from heat and light to ensure freshness and flavor every time you open the cap. Enjoy!
