Tap's 10 Healthy Eating Tips!

Now that we are in yet another new year, our "resolution to eat healthier" just became easier with healthy eating tips from The Olive Tap! 

We would love to hear how you are using our olive oil and vinegar products, gourmet specialty foods and spices, herbs and seasonings to make 2013 the healthiest yet! 

  1. Pick up a variety of Dipping and Dispensing Accessories to help control the amount of flow or portins. 
  2. Substitute 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Flavored Infused Olive Oil in place butter whenever possible.  Check out our Butter to Olive Oil Conversion Guidelines.  Try it when making prepared foods, in sauces, when cooking eggs and in baked goods including brownies, cookies, pancakes (walnut, grapeseed oil or a mild 100% EVOO).   The opportunities for substitution are almost endless!
  3. Create your own homemade vinaigrettes (to replace fat-laden cream dressings) with your favorite olive oils and vinegars. Here are a few vinaigrette recipes to check out. 
  4. Change your oil to vinegar ratio when making your favorite vinaigrette.  While the most common ratio is 2 to 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar, you can certainly use a 1 to 1 ratio or just use Balsamic Vinegar! 
  5. Replace mayonnaise on sandwiches or in pasta salads with flavored olive oil.  Try Basil Olive Oil, Tuscan Herb Olive Oil, Porcini Olive Oil and or just about any flavored oil.  If fat is still the issue, try our Gourmet Mustards or Salsas!

  7. Use fresh or dried Spices, Herbs and Seasonings to flavor dishes instead of adding flavor with fat!
  8. Reduce your salt intake with our No Salt Herbal Seasoning.

  10. Liven up grilled chicken with unique olive oil and vinegar marinades.  Just pick any one of our "Perfect Pairings" using a 1 to 1 ratio.  Marinade for a few hours or overnight, grill and finish with your favorite seasonings.
